Your Christchurch acappella Balkan Choir Musica Balkanica is thrilled to be back performing again.
Please come and be uplifted by Sacred Chants from the Orthodox Canon in the beautiful Chapel at St Andrew's College. The choir will present chants, hymns and songs from the Balkan region and beyond.
The Society, formed in February 2004, includes members from around the Balkan region and beyond, as well as Kiwis. When we think of Balkan music we think of accordions and gypsy music, Musica Balkanica exposes us to much more.
This dedicated group sings many challenging traditional works of spiritual and cultural significance in various Balkan languages. This beautiful concert repertoire includes both sacred songs from the Christian Orthodox Liturgy and Old Slavonic sung a cappella.
