The final term of the academic year sees a full-scale production created and presented to a ticketed audience at Te Whaea Theatre, with participation and leadership by senior students from every discipline and performed by second-year actors.
This year's production is Mr. Burns - A Post Electric Play
By Anne Washburn
Music by Michael Friedman Lyrics by Anne Washburn
Directed by Stella Reid
Musical Direction by Hayden Taylor
In a dystopian United States, we meet a group of people gathered around a campfire shortly after an unexplained but catastrophic event, they begin to recall an episode of The Simpsons for comfort. As the group laugh, argue, and reconstruct the story, they find it helps them forget their reality.
75 years later, this half-remembered episode of The Simpsons has become a legend told by those who survived the collapse of civilisation.
Anne Washburn’s imaginative dark comedy – with songs by Washburn and Michael Friedman – propels us forward through a new kind of time, watching popular culture develop through stories retold, and considering a new civilisation stumbling into its future. If you like your stories bold, extravagant, funny and thought provoking this is a show not to be missed.
Directed by Stella Reid (Second Unit, The Basement Tapes, White Man Behind A Desk: Live!), with musical direction by Hayden Taylor and features the work of acting, design, management and costume students.
Mr Burns promises to be an exciting and entertaining night at the theatre.
