The Māori Wardens Kaupapa is… “Aroha ki te tangata, for the love of the people”. Wardens have been operating under the Māori Community Development Act 1962. Today there are approximately 900 Māori Wardens who volunteer their time to support others in our communities. Although times have changed, we are here to support māori whānau, to be a calming presence in times of trouble, to connect people with support and social services and to be a friend. The strength of Māori Warden’s is their intimate knowledge of, and close connection to their local communities. The guiding principles of a Māori Warden is respect, awhi, aroha, and whānaungatanga.
Just walk up and join in Whānau… you won’t be able to miss it!
