Limestone Cliffs and outcrops present in the Waitaki Valley are well known for their landscape, cultural, paleontological values and recreational values. Less recognized are the incredible ecological and biodiversity richness of these rare ecosystems. Many plant species are only found growing on limestone soil and with these come a plethora of invertebrate and lizards species. Unfortunately, these ecosystems are also under increasing pressure from human activities, climate change and pest invasion. Without active management and restoration, these critically endangered ecosystems and the unique biodiversity they shelter are heading towards extinction. Join us to discover the rich biodiversity hanging on local limestone cliffs and see what the local Doc crew is doing to try and turn the tide on the current trend.
