Auckland Freediving Club invites you to a 14-week long introduction to get the feel for what it is like to swim underwater on a single breath. It is run by experienced freedivers in various locations around Auckland and includes free pool access.
During the 3 months term you will learn how to freedive safely, perform a rescue, control your breathing and relax. You will learn how to hold your breath for minutes and swim multiple laps underwater with and without fins.
* Week 1: intro, safety, static breath holds at Tepid Baths pool
* Week 2: swimming underwater with fins at Tepid Baths pool
* Week 3: swimming underwater without fins at Tepid Baths pool
* Weeks 4 - 14: improving your skills and training with other freedivers in multiple locations around Auckland (see https://aucklandfreediving.co.nz/training/)
Who it is for
Freediving is a fascinating sport. It can be done equally well by males, females, young or old. No prior diving experience is required. Bring fins and a wetsuit, if you have one.
Anyone with sufficient confidence in the water (can swim at least 100m unaided) can join.
Our regular members joined for very different reasons. Some wanted to improve their spearfishing, others wanted to freedive with whales and turtles, but what unites them all is the enjoyment of being underwater, being in control of your body and mind, being able to relax, take a deep breath and go into the unknown.
About Auckland Freediving Club
This event is run by experienced members of Auckland Freediving Club on a volunteer basis.
We are a non-profit organisation for freedivers across Greater Auckland Region. Our training locations include pools in Manurewa, Panmure, Tepid Baths, AUT Millenium and Warkworth.
Our members also train for depth in lakes Pupuke, Taupo and in the ocean off Auckland East Coast.
You will train with and learn from some of the best freedivers in the country.
