Tamaki Makaurau is set to host the inaugural Festival of Live Art (F.O.L.A.) - AKL in 2023, a wild, celebratory mash up of subversive, playful, and daring art. Local and international independent artists will come together from 14 – 19 February at Basement Theatre and digitally, to challenge perceptions and push the boundaries of performance and art. Welcome to the artistic underground. The art rats are out to play.
The 2023 programme is shaped around the sun and moon cycles, with each live work programmed during the exact timings of moonrise and sunset. The result is a festival that takes the audience on a journey that encourages clandestine pockets of darkness and transcendent moments of lightness that lean in our planet's celestial cycles.

UPDATE – FRIDAY 10 FEBRUARY 2023:
With the upcoming cyclone we must prioritise the safety of our artists, crew, and our audiences and limit unnecessary travel. We have made the heartbreaking decision to cancel/postpone our opening night.

• Takatāpui, 8.30PM - Cancelled. Ticket holders will be contacted by iTicket.
• A Rain Walk, all times - still available to purchase online. Accompanying packages will be available to pick up from Basement Theatre from 15 Feb onwards. Please put your safety first when deciding when to experience this event.

• Liquid Light 8.20PM - Continuing on 15 Feb & 18 Feb.
• Surviving the Necropolis: An Artists’ Guide 1PM - Unchanged. This keynote speech will be released online at www.fola.co.nz/keynote
• Flea Pit, 5PM - Continued from 15 Feb onwards.
• ART BRATS ART PARTY, 9.30PM - Cancelled. Come party with us on closing night instead for our HULLA GULLA CHAOS PARTY (Sat, 18 Feb)
