Dasavatharam is a high quality thematic Indian classical dance production presented by dancers of Natraj School of Dance, a well-established Indian classical dance school, celebrating its 25th anniversary.
It is an attempt to journey the audience through the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu over different time cycles since the origin of this universe as believed and recorded in the Hindu scriptures. All the incarnations have a common purpose protection of the good, destruction of evil and establishment of Dharma, the righteous way of living.

In these 10 avatars he came in different forms and not just as a human. The order of the Dasavataras has been interpreted to be reflective of Darwinian evolution for centuries. The stories of Dasavatara are believed to have developed prior to 200 CE! Many modern interpreters sequence Vishnu‘s ten main avatars in a definitive order, from simple life-forms to more complex, and see the Dasavataras as a reflection, or a foreshadowing, of the modern theory of evolution. Such an interpretation was propounded by Theosophist Helena Blavatsky in her 1877 opus Isis Unveiled.

This hour and a half long presentation beautifully and respectfully brings together dancers, technology, and unique choreography with customised costumes and music composition. The production will highlight the nuances and the blend of two styles known as the Pandanallur and kanchepuram Ellappa style of this very ancient Bharatanatyam art form.
This presentation is conceived and choreographed by Mrs. Prabha Ravi, Founder & Creative Director of Natraj School of dance based in Wellington. https://www.facebook.com/natrajschoolofdance/
