For this month’s topic we will delve into how to minimise waste created from your event, how to effectively manage waste and why it is important.

Our guest speakers come with a wealth of knowledge and firsthand experience working at a range of events including our own Whangarei District Council run events.

Wasteless Team - Jo Roberts and Kate Percy
Join Jo Roberts and Kate Percy of Waste Less to learn how you can incorporate best practice when dealing with your event waste. These two environmentally minded wahine toa started Wasteless in order to divert as much event waste away from landfill as possible.

Along with their team, over the summer market season, they managed an overwhelming average of 85% diversion of their event waste from landfill. While also generating a huge resource of compost for their community gardens. You can now find the Waste Less team at many events in Northland.

Jo and Kate are excited to talk rubbish with you and share their knowledge all for the greater good of our environment.

Eco Solutions Team - Brontë Hamilton and Cézanne Hamilton
Lead environmental educator, Cézanne teaches the 'Know Waste' and 'Know Water' programmes to early childcare centres and schools in Whangārei, covering a range of topics such as waste, recycling, composting and more. Cézanne is also the Waste Wise Schools coordinator, helping schools commit long –term to reducing their waste to landfill.

She has a degree in Geography and Environmental Science, with experience working in environmental monitoring, where she travelled across the Northland region taking samples from our beloved beaches, rivers and lakes.

Brontë has a degree in Textiles for Fashion Design, specialising in sustainable fashion. She has experience working in New Zealand's fashion industry creating zero waste knitwear garments. Brontë loves to share her expertise at our 'Make & Mend Sewing' events and her passion for sustainability through all the work she does.

Environmental learning can be fun especially by connecting through community events. By focusing on supporting existing community events to become zero-waste we can divert a lot of waste from landfill through recycling and composting.
