Are you interested in learning about how future technology is changing the galleries, libraries, archives and museums sector?

In this presentation, the ‘ARtefact’ team from Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington's School of Design Innovation will outline and demonstrate an augmented reality app that was produced through a recent Summer Research collaboration with the National Library. The team will discuss various aspects of the project, dealing with applications of AI and Blockchain technology and their potential implications for the GLAM sector.

The ‘ARtefact’ project was made possible through an extensive ongoing research collaboration between Te Herenga Waka’s School of Design Innovation and the National Library's Public Engagement Team, Digital Experience Team, Alexander Turnbull Library curatorial team and Digital Preservation Policy Strategists, with additional support from the NZ Product Accelerator and Veracity Lab.

The presentation will explore the project’s technical and theoretical underpinnings as well as a practical demonstration of ‘ARtefact’, including: data/image acquisition through DigitalNZ API, OpenAI image manipulation through Dall-E, conversational interface design through ChatGPT, and Dynamic NFT minting through the Chainlink blockchain oracle.

Contributions include project overviews by team supervisors Professor Simon Fraser and Walter Langelaar, and Summer Research scholars Quinn Dacre and Charles Lynch-Gerrard.
