Shiyeon Sung, APO’s new Principal Guest Conductor, takes to the podium for this concert with a Viennese twist.
The sensational cellist Jaemin Han won the prestigious George Enescu Cello Competition in 2021, aged 15. In his Australasian debut, he performs Haydn’s ebullient concerto.
Hindemith’s symphony is based on his opera about the painter Matthias Grünewald, who abandons art to join the Peasants’ War, but comes to the bitter realisation that in deserting his vocation he betrays himself.
Korngold’s Dance in the Old Style is an early work that lay unpublished for years, an inexplicable fate for such a delicious bonbon. The concert starts with Beethoven in his most dramatic mood.
