The Taupō Classic has evolved... welcome to the Taupo-Nui-a-Tia Disc Golf Classic.
Nui-a-Tia means the 'Cloak of Tia'. This name change encompasses the Taupō District as a whole and allows us to grow each year, bringing more and more disc golf to the area. Last year’s event sold out in record time, so we knew this year’s event required us to grow. Therefore, we have added another stunning course to the already world-class Spa Park Disc Golf Course. The second course will be a first-time-ever temporary course designed in the nearby Taupō Golf Course. We will also be using the Golf Clubrooms for our Event HQ.
We would like to acknowledge the work of NZ Disc Golf legend Bob Gentil for running the Taupō Classic for the past 19 years. Here are a few words from Bob.
"What a joy to watch as our Sport grows from strength to strength. When I first visited the beautiful Spa Park back in the late 90s it was obvious this was a park made for Disc Golf. I spent many, many hours in the park over the years designing a testing championship course, and from the ‘2002 NZ Championships’ discgolf.co.nz has run an event there every year. Setting up and pulling down our temporary course every time, but so worth the effort. Then finally in 2021 with a few others on the bandwagon the go ahead was given to install this permanent course and the Taupō Disc Golf Club Inc. was born along with our opening event on this stunning permanent course.

This 2022 event marks the 20th annual event in the park and is a fitting time to hand our baby over to Taupō Disc Golf.

Really looking forward to catching up with my ‘Frisbee family’ as ‘just a player’ every year for many to come at this awesome event.
