For their final performance in 2022, the Taranaki Symphony Orchestra will take the audience on a musical journey exploring the rich and patriotic sounds of Victorian England through to the passion and splendour of 19th century German Romanticism. Under the direction of Christopher J. Luke, Taranaki’s leading ensemble will bring first time performances to the region of Charles Villiers Stanford’s Irish Rhapsody No. 1 and Gustav Holst’s A Somerset Rhapsody where familiar folksong themes of the United Kingdom will be heard, followed by the celebratory music of Charles Hubert Parry’s Symphonic Variations. Composed in 1830 to celebrate the 300th Anniversary of the Reformation and the birth of the Lutheran Church, Felix Mendelsohn’s Symphony No. 5, simply known as the “Reformation Symphony”, adds to the Orchestra’s ever-growing repertoire of symphonies. After another year of challenges, the Taranaki Symphony Orchestra finishes the year with a performance that will delight everyone.
