Cycling should be safe and accessible for everyone in Aotearoa. We can no longer accept people being fatally or seriously injured on our streets. That’s why we’re holding a rally here in Kirikiriroa/Hamilton to call for urgent action from the Government to make cycling safer, including a fully funded national strategy for safe cycling.

We will start with a group ride from Steele Park then gather at Garden Place for the rally. You are welcome to join for just one or both - we would love to see you there!

11AM - GROUP RIDE
Gather at Steele Park with your bike, trike, or scooter at 11am to ride together to Garden Place. We want the ride to be accessible to all ages and abilities so we are working to arrange for police escorts at the front and back of the group.

11.30AM - RALLY AT GARDEN PLACE
Once we’ve all arrived at Garden Place, we will gather and hold a ‘die-in’ to help highlight the risks that people riding bikes face. We also have some amazing speakers lined up. Bring a sign, banner, or placard with a message you’d like to share if you can.

Following the rally we will have a BYO picnic at Garden Place for those who would like to stick around, chat and share kai.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Volunteers will be wearing hi-vis jackets. Please wave down a volunteer if you have any issues, including health and safety concerns. If possible, please wear everyday clothing so you are not mistaken for a volunteer!

You are free to use any of the bike parking facilities in and around Garden Place to store your bike. We will also be organising a small bike valet service and some volunteers will keep an eye on your bike.

Masks are optional under orange traffic light settings.

SAFETY INFO FOR GROUP RIDE
-Volunteers wearing high-vis jackets will be riding at the front, end and middle of the group – please wave them down if you have any issues
-Ride at a leisurely pace and do not follow too closely to others
-Be courteous to pedestrians and other road users
-Try not to engage if members of the public shout verbal abuse
-There will be a first aid kit present at the rally and the ride. In the event of an emergency, please call 111
- Have fun!!
