Tweed up, darlings! The ride is on.

A country bicycle ride with lashings of style, New Zealand’s National Tweed Ride, heartily encouraged by Blackwell and Sons, is a relaxed two-wheeled ramble through the historic tree-lined streets, country lanes and byways of beautiful Greytown in the South Wairarapa. Assemble your well-pressed best outfits, bring your velocipede, and join us for a bell-ringing jaunt of jolly good fun this Easter. The route will take in many of Greytown’s beautiful tree-lined street and surrounding pretty countryside and finishing off with a Knees Up. As indeed it should.

It will be the jolliest 75-minute jaunt through leafy lanes, past gloriously historic homesteads and perfectly placid bovine beasts. Sweatless, gruntless cycling will be the order of the day, and to take all undue pressure off, Tweed Riders will self-select which frightfully civilised bikie gang they would like to join – the Herringbone Hares (at a gentle pace) or the Tweed Tortoises (at a gentler pace).

Your gently unperspirational ride will conclude with a Knee’s Up Greytown’s World Famous Entertainment facility, Truckstop (102 Main St) where refreshing refreshments will be served.
There will be prizes for bicycles, costumes and moustaches. And your Tweed ticket includes entrance to both the party and a potently marvellous gin martini. (Legal note: Martinis will not be served to minors, already inebriated riders, or social media users with very poor manners).

Being out on a bicycle with 99 other stylish riders, fully engaged in the joys of meandering along quiet country lanes, breathing fresh rural air, and laughing wholeheartedly at the jolly japes and surprises around every corner is just the tonic we all need right now. (Other than the tonic consumed with your post-ride gin).

While Covid restrictions mean that participant numbers have been reduced to 100, don’t let that discourage you enjoying what is also a Spectator Sport.

The 2022 route trundles around the west side of Greytown from 1pm with a Spectator Map detailing top spots to see the riders available on the event website.

Cheer on the peddling “tweeders” on one of Greytown’s beautiful tree-lined streets and in the surrounding pretty countryside.

- The 2022 National Tweed Ride will be limited to a maximum of 100 riders – due to RED LEVEL requirements. Entrance to the Knees Up is limited to the 100 Tweed Rider ticket holders.

- Riders must be aged 18+ to register and participate, especially in wicked beverage consumption.

- Riding route will include some light gravel trails but no substantial inclines or challenging surfaces. A safety vehicle will follow riders to enable pickups in the event of flat tyres or other mishaps.

- Bicycles, tweed costumes, helmets and other accessories are the responsibility of the participant; they do not come with your ticket, silly.

- A current Covid Vaccine Pass will be required for entry to the event and participants will be scanned in upon registration; should Covid Traffic Lights change requiring event cancellation, a full refund will be given.
