The Christchurch Meccano Club is bringing a Meccano Model and Toy display to Greymouth.
Club president Neil Pluck says the Club is bringing the display of old-style Meccano to Greymouth as several Club members originate from the West Coast.
“Meccano Clubs are alive and well in New Zealand, the Christchurch Meccano Club is the oldest, continuous Club of its kind in the world, mainly because other clubs stopped during the war years.”
Meccano dates to 1898 when Frank Hornby created a toy he called “Mechanics Made Easy” to encourage his sons to take an interest in engineering.
Young and old continue to be mesmerized by Meccano.

While the “old-style Meccano” is becoming hard to come by, plastic Meccano sets are on sale at most toy stores.
The Greymouth display will feature a range of Meccano Models, Historical Meccano Sets, Toys and Hornby Electric Trains.
There will also be a “hands-on” area for children and their parents to make things out of plastic Meccano.
The Meccano Club’s display will be held in the Greymouth High Schools Hall on High Street on Saturday 08th October and Sunday 9th October 2022.
