Matariki 2022 with Nga tangata Paoa

Come celebrate with Ngati Paoa. Commemorate the first public holiday in Aotearoa to acknowledge and celebrate Matariki a.k.a. Maori New Year.

This is a family-friendly event, open to all.

From noon we will have karakia to open the event, followed by:

Kai
Hangi, raw fish, fried bread and more
Interactive stalls (koha appreciated)
- Making Poi.
- Make a Manu aute (kite).
- Make a Maramataka dial.
- "Castaway Foundry" Aluminium smelter (making Matariki dogtags from used cans))
- Harakeke prep & weaving
- Face painting
- Stamping (bring your own t-shirt/t-towel, hoodie or what you'd like to print on).
Korero Tent - Singers, Poets, Orators (Scheduled and some open mic time)

We are a (currently) unfunded event hosted by Ngati Paoa whanau on our ancestral motu.

Koha welcome and will be used for event expenses as well as accomodation and travel costs for Paoa people, practitioners, traders and contributors.
