The authors of a ground-breaking new book, 'Making Space', will discuss the many challenges and triumphs of women architects in Aotearoa. Hear stories about women making space for themselves in a male-dominated profession, including many whose careers had until now almost entirely been lost to the historical record.

Shining a light on local women architects
In 1933, Merle Greenwood was the first woman to graduate with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in New Zealand. The women architects who followed her have made many significant contributions to the built environment, creativity and community of Aotearoa New Zealand. Making Space tells the story of hundreds of these remarkable women facing decades of struggle in the male-dominated field of architecture.

Edited by Elizabeth Cox, Making Space includes chapters written by 30 women architects, architectural historians and academics. The book shines a light on many architects whose careers have not been told.

In this talk, a panel of the authors will discuss the many challenges and triumphs of women architects in Aotearoa.
