A fantastic course that's full of fun and inspiration!
Week 1: Learn the techniques of working with jeweller's hard wax to create beautiful textures in metal that can be used in multiple ways! Your creations are sent away to be professionally cast in the metal of your choice (silver, white bronze, bronze, brass or copper!). You will then learn to clean and polish your casts into ready to wear jewellery!
Week 2: Learn techniques in soft modelling wax to create organic rings and more.
Week 3: Expand your range of designs and skills with the wax you prefer using. Learn to set raw sapphires, rubies and diamonds into your wax designs to be cast-set in the metal of your choice.
Week 4, 5 & 6: learn to trim, clean and finish your casts, turning them into original jewellery ready to wear! Over these weeks you can also create more wax originals to cast, but you may need to book bench hire sessions after your course to finish them off, as cast orders can take a couple weeks to get back to us.
More advanced students can learn to set cabochon or faceted stones in one of our regular evening classes using fabrication techniques.
Course costs include basic materials for the process, but do not include the metal costs for the pieces you choose to cast. As this is subject to each students' choice of size and type of metal, we leave this up to you to decide. Casting costs vary - rings for example may cost between $5 and $50 depending on whether you cast in Silver or Bronze. Casting in Bronze or Brass will be much cheaper.
