Kaikōrero matua Victoria Campbell (Ngāti Irakehu, Ngāi Tahu) is returning to Te Anau, this time for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori! We are very excited to welcome her back to share her passion for tātai arorangi, or Māori astronomy.
Victoria will be giving a talk at the Fiordland College Library on Friday 16 September from 7:00 – 8:00 PM followed by a shared supper and short stargazing on the college field if weather allows.
Her kōrero will focus on astronomy, mātauraka Māori in practice, and how te reo Māori has been an integral part of her journey.
This event is free and registration is not required.
Victoria works for Te Rūnanga o Moeraki as General Manager and has a passion for te reo me ōhona tikaka, mātauraka Māori including Māori astronomy, and the natural world.
She is involved with the Dark Sky Project (Takapō), sits on the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve Board and is a member of the Matariki Advisory Group who provided recommendations to Government regarding the establishment of the Matariki Public Holiday.
Victoria's visit to Te Anau is being supported by Te Anau Waitangi Charitable Trust (via a Community Organisation Grants Scheme fund) and the Department of Conservation.
This event is part of our Fiordland events programme.
