Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

This course runs over the weekend 6 - 7 August 2022 with classes 10:30am - 4pm each day.

Come and learn from a professional interior decorator how to successfully use colour when decorating your home. You will learn how to combine different colours and hue to put texture and pattern together to achieve maximum effect.

Course outline:
- Introduction
- Understanding the colour wheel theory
- Practical group exercise
- Working with scale and proportion in design
- Top tips on how colour, pattern and texture can give the illusion of changing the proportion of a space
- Top tips on using pattern and texture in interior spaces
- How to implement colour palettes, pattern and texture in your homes
- Coordinating patterns
- How to create a sample or colour board
- Practical exercise in class creating a successful colour palette for a lounge or bedroom
- Workshop summary and discussion

Expected learning outcomes:
- Understand basic colour theory and learn how to combine different colour schemes successfully using a colour wheel
- Appreciate how to put texture and pattern together successfully
- Demonstrate competence in the ability to use colour effectively in an interior space

What to bring:
Bring your lunch each day. We'll provide tea and coffee. Bring a printed A4 photo of your lounge or bedroom (whichever room you'd like to create a colour scheme for), bring a carpet sample OR one or two patterned fabric cuttings that you'd like to incorporate into your scheme. Tip: you can buy fabric offcuts from Martha's Fabric in Melrose St.

Who should attend this course?
Beginners: this course gives some tricks of the trade: how professional interior designers work with colour and decoration successfully, how this can be applied to your home.
