Northart is excited to host a solo exhibition of contemporary artist Stuart Bridson from 12 July - 20 August 2022, with an opening on Saturday 9 July, 2pm – 4pm.
Stuart Bridson is a well-known New Zealand sculptor. He lives on the West Coast of the North Island, near Raglan, and works at the Waikato Museum. He was awarded a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Canterbury, and has exhibited widely in group and solo exhibitions throughout New Zealand.
Stuart Bridson’s solo exhibition 'Disassemble' explores sculpture through a unique lens. By taking apart each assemblage sculpture and exhibiting as individual parts, Bridson examines how we read objects and create associations through pre-conditioned narratives and histories.
“Using analytical breaking down of presupposed narratives is at the base of my work. Through these assemblages I explore my interest in materials and physical connections between seemingly disparate objects. When assembled into sculptures I find relationships to my own narrative and the choices I have made as I analyse the shapes and connections.
I am also interested in the choices we make and the many subconscious narratives we construct as a species and the information we uncover about our species as we pull apart these narratives.” - Bridson
