Me tae mai ā-tinana, me hono tuihono mai rānei mō tēnei kaupapa.

Evelyn M Tobin, MNZM, JP (PGDipEd, B.MS, Tohu Mātauranga Māori, Dip Tchg Te Toi Reo Māori, Tohu Panekiretanga o Te Reo) he kaiako rēhita ia me tētahi tiwhikete Pūmau onāianei e tuku ana i ngā ratonga takawaenga whakangungu me te tautoko mā ngā kaiako, ngā tumuaki, ngā poari kaitiaki, me ngā kāhui ako.
He wahine para huarahi, he kaitaunaki nō te kōhanga reo me te kura kaupapa Māori me ngā pūkenga mātauranga e whakaara ana i te reo Māori, ngā tikanga Māori, me te mātauranga Māori — otirā i ngā wāhi o te mātauranga akoranga Māori e tino mātau ana ia me te whakarauoranga o te hiranga o te reo Māori.

E kaha ana a Evelyn i roto i ana mahi ki te tautoko i Te Puna Mātauranga, Te Rua Mahara me Ngā Taonga, ā, he hononga piri ōna ki ngā tūmomo rōpū ahurea, tūao me te arumoni rerekē. He wairua auaha tō Evelyn, he whakaaro arohaehae ia, ā, he mātau ia ki ngā reo e rua me ōna mōhio whānui hei kaiārahi, me te noho ki ngā poari ā-motu maha, ngā rōpū tohutohu, minita hoki.
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari takimano nō ōku tūpuna.
et’s celebrate 40 years of the kōhanga reo movement that changed the face of education in Aotearoa New Zealand. The kaupapa was conceptualised by our kaumātua elders in the early 1980s, and brought to existence by whānau and community groups up and down the country.

Listen to Evelyn Tobin (Kōmiti Māori Chair) who participated in setting up kōhanga reo and kura kaupapa in those early years, and her son Ruki Tobin (Kaihautū, National Library) who is one of the first-generation graduates of kōhanga reo. Hinerangi Himiona (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Toarangatira) will facilitate the panel discussion, focusing on the many positive and transformative impacts that generations of ‘kōhanga reo pēpē’ have had on Aotearoa New Zealand’s societies.
