Welcome to the Rose Theatre and Smoky Mirror Arts Co’s presentation of "A Night in the Big Smoke"; a night where you take one giant step back into the craziness of the 1920's Chicago cabaret scene.
Smoky Mirror Arts Co. is Glass Ceiling Arts Collective's “next-gen” programme, a space where our young adult performers can transition into the professional performance world.
This is an entirely young-adult led project, with both the Smoky Mirror Arts Co. concept and the cabaret being devised by our rangatahi. They've pulled the cabaret together, featuring some of New Zealand's leading and award winning performers, to create paid work and raise awareness about the importance of creating inclusive onstage environments for emerging talent.
The name Smoky Mirror Arts Co. was inspired by the idea that the cast you see onstage is a reflection of today’s diverse society.
Throw on your glad rags and join us as we take you on a journey back to the 1920’s. We promise it will be the Cat’s Pyjamas!
Some of the performers you will see are the ones also on stage at The Civic in the big musical shows. Our MC for the evening will be the amazing Adam Burrell, star of K Rd Strip, State Highway 48 and who sang in the male choir for the Adele concert in 2017.
Our company features 12 performers, including; Louise Wilkie has numerous stage credits to her name including West Side Story, Strictly Ballroom and will be in the forthcoming NSMT production of 'Wicked'. Josh Morris has performed in many shows including 42nd street, We Will Rock You, Night of the Queer, Strictly Ballroom and will be in forthcoming productions of Wicked and Kinky Boots.
Zoe Fraser has featured in Warner Bros. 'House of Drag Season 2', numerous corporate gigs including for Sky City and will also be in the forthcoming production of Wicked. Lily-Mae Ivatt-Oakley is an emerging talent performer, having had stage and screen experience including being a feature actor in TV Commercials and playing Sharpay in Glass Ceiling Arts Collective's production of High School Musical.
