The 2nd Edition of 2022 Aegio International Piano Competition (Canada) - New Zealand Round

The member of the Alink-Argerich Foundation, Aegio International Piano Competition (Canada) will host its New Zealand Round in partnership with the Afflatus Ensemble. This round is only open to New Zealand citizens and its residents. Contestants today have been selected by 20 international preliminary juries of the competition from Canada, Europe, New York, California, Houston and People’s Republic of China whom have reviewed pre-screening video submissions from all applicants of the competition. The prize winners from New Zealand round today will be also competing for the nomination for the Global Final Round which will take place in Toronto, Canada on January 2023.

I Mi-Yeon | Pianist

Praised by world-renowned artists, international prize winning pianist I Mi-Yeon has performed at major concert halls throughout Italy, Spain, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand with numerous features on TV, radio and magazines. At age 16 she became the first student ever to be granted a special early university admission, going on to receive a Bachelors of Music with First Class Honours and the ‘Blue Award’ from University of Auckland. Mi-Yeon received her Master of Music degree and Graduate Performance Diploma at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in the United States after receiving the highest performance score upon entering, and also won 1st prize at the Conservatory’s H. Winter competition. She also holds an artist diploma from one of the most prestigious piano academies in the world, ‘Incontri col Maestro’ International Piano Academy in Imola, Italy.


Jason Bae | Artistic Director of Aegio IPC New Zealand


Steinway Artist and an Austrian Gramophone Artist, Jason Bae is the founder and music director of Afflatus Ensemble. He is the current Artistic Director of the Aegio International Piano Competition New Zealand. Since making his concerto debut with Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra at age 13, Jason has performed with New Zealand Symphony Orchestra National Youth Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Australia, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Gooden.semble London and as a recitalist, he has performed in U.S.A (Carnegie Hall), U.K (King’s Place, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, St. James’ Piccadilly, Steinway Hall), Canada, France, Poland, Finland, South Korea, Shanghai, Australia and New Zealand. Jason has received his Masters of Arts in Piano Performance at Royal Academy of Music in London with the highest distinction award, “DipRAM”. He is a jury member of international piano competitions including Singapore International Piano Competition and recently the 6th Steinway Youth Piano Competition in Vietnam. www.jasonbaepianist.com
