Haere mai, afio mai! Please join us at Papatūnga, Parnell Station for a special screening of The Orator (O Le Tulafale), directed by Tusi Tamasese.

Tamasese’s first feature film tells the story of a taro farmer (played by real life farmer Fa’afiaula Sagote) who finds the courage to stand tall for his family and culture, and stand up to sceptical villagers. The Orator (2011) was the first feature film written and directed by a Samoan person—and the first in the Samoan language. This screening is being held alongside the exhibition The Inner Lives of Islands curated by Robbie Handcock at Te Tuhi, which features the work of Aotearoa based Samoan artist Christopher Ulutupu, who worked in the art department for The Orator.

Light refreshments will be provided. This screening is a free event. Registrations are not required. Please note, The Orator (O Le Tulafale) is rated M, suitable for mature audiences aged 16 and over.
