Northart is excited to host a solo exhibition of artist Ra Gossage.
Ra Gossage is a self-taught painter of Ngāti Wai and Ngāti Ruanui descent. Gossage creates contemporary kowhaiwhai paintings and panels. These finely detailed paintings are created by entirely hand, and are a reflection of her heritage, culture and environment. Ra’s interest in the arts began in childhood, where she observed and assisted her father, Peter Gossage, making kowhaiwhai panels.
In Nga Rangi i Runga / The Heavens Above Gossage presents a new collection of her kowhaiwhai works. Gossage has been developing her practice for over 15 years, her works reflect her learning’s and her love for kowhaiwhai. Gossage ultimately aims to promote the beauty and importance of this treasured Māori art form through her practice.
This exhibition will open with an event on Sunday 30th of May from 4 to 6 pm, and then run daily at Northart until 27th of June. Public programming will include a ‘Conversation with the Artists’ on Saturday the 20th of June at 1pm and an Artists Workshop.
More specific details will be announced on Northart’s website and social media. Image caption: Ra Gossage, Hinerauamoe or Petite Star, 2021. Exhibited: Ra Gossage 'Nga Rangi i Runga / The Heavens Above', Northart Gallery, 1 - 27 June, 2021.
