Jenny McCleod’s brand new commission for the New Zealand Chamber Soloists, Dark Bright Night, will be premiered on Sunday 28th March in the Concert Chamber at Auckland Town Hall. It gives title and sets the tone for the whole concert programme which features brooding and dramatic works by Beethoven and Brahms.
Dark Bright Night was commissioned by Ian Graham and Agi Lehár-Graham to celebrate the birth of their granddaughter Clara. It is the second piece in NZCS’s unique 7 x 7 project: raising commissions for seven acclaimed New Zealand women composers, each to create a brand new seven-minute piano trio. Jenny McLeod, widely considered one of the most naturally gifted of all New Zealand composers. The trio are also joined by mega-violinist Dimitri Atanassov, former Concert Master of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.
