The Ngaio Marsh Awards, in association with Hutt City Libraries, invites booklovers to an event featuring four local authors.

Book critic and Story Wizard Stephanie Soper will chair a panel featuring 2020 Ngaio Marsh Awards finalist Gudrun Frerichs along with Ngaios entrants present and past Andi C Buchanan, Mark Derby, and CB Landy. They will discuss how they come up with exciting stories and showcase people and place.

When: 6.15 for a 6.30 pm panel discussion.

Andi C Buchanan is an award-winning author, short story writer, and editor living in Lower Hutt. They won a 2020 Sir Julius Vogel Award for From a Shadow Grave, a genre-blending novella inspired by the real-life murder of Phyllis Symons during the construction of the Mt Victoria tunnel in 1930.

Mark Derby is a highly regarded historian and writer who's published several books about various figures from New Zealand history. His latest book Rock College explores the fascinating and sometimes shocking story of Mount Eden prison, New Zealand's most notorious gaol.

Gudrun Frerichs is a retired psychotherapist who lived in Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands before moving to New Zealand thirty years ago. She writes thrillers, romance, and contemporary fiction. Her book Girl From the Tree House was a finalist for the Ngaio Marsh Award for Best Novel.

CB Landy has published several books and short stories, including a series of cozy mysteries centred on a knitting group in the South Wairarapa. In 2015 with fellow Hutt Valley author Cat Connor she opened the non-profit Writer's Plot, Reader's Read bookshop, devoted exclusively to New Zealand authors.
