The Incubator Creative Hub is proud to be welcoming the amazing Louis Mikaere with his latest exhibition titled "Atua Māori".
This exhibition will be presented in Okorore - Ngā Toi Māori Gallery & Studios, in the Whare Taonga Gallery, during our programme of Matariki Tauranga Moana events.
Māori gods are vital in the story of creation known to us as the separation of Rangi and Papa. These gods have numerous amounts of tales, some positive and some not. Some wanted their parents separated and some didn’t. This exhibition will express the whakaaro of takitahi or individualism.
Through each Atua had their own domains and traits, just like us a humans.
"As mental health is such a big kaupapa these days, especially for us as Māori I think it's important to relate to our Purakau that were passed down by our Tipuna. To be yourself in a world that's constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." -Louis Mikaere.
On display from June the 12th to the 3rd of July.
Opening event on Friday the 11th of June, 5-8pm, at The Incubator Creative Hub.
