'What to do when things go wrong' with Tracy McLaughlin.
When things go wrong, it can feel as if the world is just not fair.
We look for someone to blame, and and it is pretty easy to feel sorry for ourselves.
But self-pity is a miserable space to be in, and very unlikely to help us find positive solutions to our problems.
In situations of conflict we tend to become angry easily.
We even think anger will help us ‘win’ our battles, and we rely on it as if it were our trusted friend.
The mind of anger, however, leaves a trail of broken relationships, lost opportunities, and painful feelings in its wake.
In this series, we will learn skillful techniques to remain balanced, flexible and peaceful in the midst of difficult situations and conflicts, thereby overcoming our real enemy, the painful mind of anger itself. Please join us for learning about the cool, spacious mind of PATIENCE, the direct opponent to the mind of anger and self-pity.
The weekly classes are suitable for everyone and are an ideal opportunity to take some time out, relax, refresh and improve our sense of inner peace and well-being.
The programme is aimed at helping us experience the benefits of meditation, and learn practical ways of maintaining a peaceful and positive mind in the midst of the challenges and busy-ness of everyday life.
The talks are drawn from Buddhist teachings but are relevant to all of us (Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike).
Classes start with a brief introduction, and a guided breathing meditation to help us relax and clear our minds.
This is followed by a talk and time for questions.
Then we do a second guided meditation, which is related to the teaching, and helps us the take what we have learnt into our daily life. There is usually some time for discussion during the evening and light refreshments are available after class.
