Academy Cinemas is proud to present a return to our classic programming with a two-week ‘Cinema of Luis Buñuel’ film series, featuring a selection of eight of the iconoclast director’s best features.
Luis Buñuel’s career spanned from the 1920s to the 1970s, with the director making experimental avant-garde work in France, followed by a more obscure sojourn in commercial cinema in Mexico. It was following this period back in Spain and France where he made the films he is now most acclaimed for and that feature primarily in our retrospective.
Noted as a leading figure in the surrealist movement, his films nevertheless cover multiple genres including comedy, adventure and religious but are often most recognisable through their erotic and experimental tilts.
