For the fifth year running, Banished Music presents Eggfest at the one and only Eggsentric Cafe in the Coromandel. This year's iteration features iconic Dunedin pop group The Chills, Auckland's rock groove juggernaut Racing, Pōneke's folk-soul storytelling trio Kita and DJ of mirth and mystery Lucola. An evening not to be missed!
The Chills
Crucial and beloved, The Chills albums and live energy is the central reason why they are remembered fondly in all of the forty countries that they have thus far visited. It’s the combination of this and the consistent quality of their songs which have established The Chills as one of the most well-known New Zealand groups to date. The band have been busy in 2020, hunkering down and forging their latest creation; an album set for a 2021 release as a follow up to 2018's critically lauded Snow Bound.
Racing
Auckland-based four pieces, Racing, take rock and roll and inject it with a chemical haze so potent the listener is left both pleased and punished. Once likened to “the thoughts of a crocodile in flood season”, the band crafts a swirling sea of groove and hypnosis into rock anthems drenched in weird tropical dance music.
Kita
Wellington based KITA bonds the folk, soul, storytelling and guitar of Nikita Tu-Bryant with the thick lush sounds of Moog synth and Fender Rhodes from Ed Zuccollo (Zuke) and the filthy drive and barking psychedelic drums of Rick Cranson. Currently recording and mixing in Wellington, Kita will be releasing their debut album in early 2021 and bringing their mix of funky psychedelic groove and indie-pop to festivals and venues soon after.
DJ Lucola
Crash landing back in New Zealand just in time for the ‘pandemic party’, Lucola was renowned for spinning the finest deep cuts at Los Angeles’ Rooftop pool parties & underground gimp basements. Frequently receiving compliments such as ‘can you play something we can dance to’ or ‘quite a cool vibe but I didn’t recognize one song you played’, Lucola quickly established himself as the (self-proclaimed) 17th best DJ in LA. Tear up the D floor or at least nod you head politely to these esoteric, energetic, enigmatic, melodramatic grooves!
