The 2019 Volume Mapua Literary Festival is a boutique literary festival featuring some of New Zealand’s best and most interesting writers. Organised by Volume, the 2018 New Zealand Bookshop of the Year, the festival continues the series of literary events held in Mapua to benefit the Mapua Community Library. All ticket sales benefit the library.
Carl Shuker’s new novel is a compelling story of human fallibility, and of the dangerous hunger for black and white answers in a world of exponential complication and nuance. When something goes badly wrong during an operation, a surgeon at a city hospital—a gifted, driven and rare woman excelling in a male-dominated culture—finds her life redefined by a mistake.
Carl Shuker, a former editor at the British Medical Journal, is the author of five remarkable novels.
Come and hear Carl in conversation with journalist and author Naomi Arnold.
