The 11th Riverton Heritage Harvest Festival is a celebration of Southland's home harvest & of traditional growing, harvesting, preserving and sharing. During the festival there will be workshops, demonstrations, displays, a farmers market, a pot-luck feast, music & friendly company!
Riverton’s annual Heritage Harvest Festival is Southlands most heart- warming. Robert Guyton, one of the organizers, says “Our festival is so wholesome, you could serve it up on a plate at a country picnic”, he said, “and everyone, from the newly-born to the elderly would enjoy something from the menu." The festival hall features a smorgasbord of engaging activities and displays of interest to gardeners, home-makers, and anyone at all interested in home-made, do-it-yourself, healthy living.
There will be things to taste and buy; produce, chutney, baking, plants and seeds.
The cider press will be operating all weekend, bring along your apples to press or taste the fresh juice.
There will be displays of the produce of the south, many types of apples, potatoes and tomatoes. Bring along vegetables from your own garden or preserves from the pantry to add to the displays at any time over the weekend, there are prizes to be won!
With 15 different low-cost workshops offered over the weekend it is a great chance to learn a range of self- sufficiency skills that will save you money. Old fashioned children’s games are on offer for the young and young at heart.
