Pop Saturday 12 October, 7-11 pm, in your diary for an evening of fun for the whole family at the Rolleston Community Centre.
A mixture of Indian folk dance, food stalls, and dance, GarbaRolls celebrates the Indian festival of Navaratri with a Kiwi twist. Garba, also spelled garba, is a type of Indian folk dance commonly performed at festivals and on other special occasions.
“It’s a joyful style of dance,” says Nishant, Bhavna, Gayatri, Dipti, Himanshu and Anil who have come up with this idea of organizing an event of this sort first time in Rolleston.
“There will be demonstrations, and opportunities for everyone to join in and participate, including a best Garba dress competition. We wanted to bring the community together for a fun, family friendly event to share elements of our culture"
“Although the event is free, we’ll be asking for donations, and holding raffles to raise money for the Cancer Society of New Zealand. One in three New Zealanders are impacted by cancer and we want to do our bit to help raise funds for scientific breakthroughs and research into a cure and to support those impacted by cancer.”
This Garba event only happens once a year, so don’t miss the opportunity to join in the fun!

Organised by a group of local residents from Rolleston, the GarbaRolls is sponsored by Golden Homes, 24x7, Bombay Bazzar, Good Money Financial advisers with support from the Cancer Society.
