Pene Pati (Winner of the 2010 Lexus Song Quest)
Amitai Pati (Winner of the 2012 Lexus Song Quest)
With Guest Artist Dame Malvina Major
Comprised of two tenor brothers, Pene and Amitai Pati and their baritone cousin Moses Mackay, Sol3 Mio is the combination of three powerful and moving operatic voices, with a dash of irrepressible Samoan humour.
The Samoan New Zealand trio are quickly establishing an international reputation. Having recently returned from Wales, where they studied at the exclusive Welsh International Academy Of Voice under the tutelage of world-renowned tenor Dennis O’Neill, the world’s ears are now standing to attention.
Amidst all that excitement, the group signed to Universal Music and recorded their self-titled debut album in London with award winning producer Nick Patrick (Katherine Jenkins, Hayley Westenra, Russell Watson). The stunning album, which will be released on the Decca label, features opera classics, modern surprises and of course the soaring voices and emotional harmonies that make up the unique sound of Sol3 Mio.
Sol3 Mio’s guest artist, Dame Malvina Major, needs no introduction. Dame Malvina’s opera career has included twenty-eight major Operatic roles, extensive Oratorio and Concert repertoire and discography of commercial recordings.
Dame Malvina’s singing career is truly international, as she has performed before royalty and heads of state in many countries and in the most prestigious concert venues in the world. Her concerts have also included exotic locations, which range from the pyramids in Egypt to the wetlands of South Australia.
In 1991 she was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire, in recognition of her services to opera and the community, a commitment that was also recognised with Honorary Doctorates from Waikato and Massey Universities. In 2012 she was Awarded New Zealand’s Highest Honour; The Order of New Zealand.
She currently teaches at the University of Waikato where she is a Senior Fellow at the Conservatory of Music.
