CBS Canterbury Arena, Jack Hinton Dve, Addington, Christchurch City
Saturday 29 March 2014, 7:30pm – 10:00pm
Additional fees may apply
In this very special one night only concert, singer, songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist and voice of rock band System of a Down, Serj Tankian, will take to the stage with the CSO to perform the extraordinary Orca and Elect the Dead Symphonies.
Orca, Tankian's first true symphony, mixes influences from early 20th century composers with modern film compositional dynamics. Listeners will be met with a mingling of sounds and intertwining pieces that are both serene and bombastic at the same time, offering a fresh interpretation to the classical art.
According to Tankian, "Orca is known as the Killer Whale, but is really a dark dolphin, a symbolism for human dichotomy."
All four acts of Orca will be performed alongside many songs from the critically acclaimed Elect the Dead Symphony.
Off the back of his hugely successful European tour, Serj Tankian fans are in for a unique treat as this concert is his only New Zealand performance.
