Live Like Lions is a 4 piece blues, jazz, folk, soul, pop, rock band that formed in Dunedin during 2013. After two months of gigging around the lower south island on weekends, the group is getting ready to set out on a 40-day nation wide tour, beginning late January 2014 and wrapping up around mid March. The sound draws influence from the likes of Etta James and Amy Winehouse. The songs are bold, expressive and offer a refreshing originality while telling stories of travel, friendship and summertime. The band is joined by Dunedin based, chameleonic solo act BIKK for these 24 concerts across New Zealand.
Live Like Lions began life as an acoustic duo when singer/songwriter Elena Berg (Girl On Girl Action) teamed up with guitarist Michael Morris (The River Jesters). What was initially a side project, taking a back seat at the mercy of other varied musical commitments has over time matured and unexpectedly stepped into it's own light. After the release of their debut EP and a tour of the lower south island, Elena and Michael recruited bassist Pania Simmonds (Dr Glam) and drummer Chris Butchard (Tahu & The Takahes).
BIKK was born after a year spent overseas where frontman Butchard’s only musical companion was his rusted acoustic guitar after opting to leave the drum kit at home. Returning to Dunedin in 2010 and with a severe dose of the songwriting disease he soon set up shop in the home studio and started getting his ideas to tape. After sharing some demos with friends and family and suffering some peer pressure the show finally hit the road early 2013.
