What comes first the sea or the shanty? For some the shanty is their only way to relate the un-relatable: the foam of days – a life at Sea. For others a shanty may transmit a maladie, something the sea alone can cure. Since time immemorial (1813), members of the Wellington Sea Shanty Society, however, have known there is no separating the salt from the spume.
In July 2013 the Wellington Sea Shanty Society will release their seminal work: Now That's What I Call Sea Shanties - Vol 1. Nine odes to the men and women of the ocean!
Come sink a shandy 'n' sing a shanty with New Zealand's Most 'Sea Worthy' Shanty Group™.
Tickets are strictly limited and include:
- A two hour cruise in the Wellington Harbour.
- One free beverage.
- Some light nibbles.
- A whole lot of shanties!
Lyrics provided for all ye land lubbers!
Dress nautical! Prize for best dressed!
'We'll set our sails tomorrow and tonight we'll drink merrily, with the wind there's a way to find freedom on the waves of the great open sea...'
