Auckland Walks, the leader in city walking tours, presents a special event for Waitangi Day - an entertaining discovery experience telling the stories of Sir John Logan Campbell and early Auckland while walking some of the same streets Campbell lived on. In addition we visit buildings and public spaces of the lower city and Albert Park that he knew so well.
Campbell, one of the most prominent figures in the early commercial life of the city, is revered as the father of Auckland. He arrived in 1840 and passed away 100 years ago leaving behind a legacy that also involves educational, cultural and civic institutions. His greatest gift being that of the magnificent Cornwall Park.
Guided Auckland City Walks embrace natural and social history, public art and heritage architecture as well as providing an introduction to some of the retail, dining and entertainment possibilities in the inner city.
"I had no idea the place was so interesting!" - Mrs Betty F, Sydney.
Tours are conducted at a reasonable pace and mobility aids are not recommended. We walk up stairs and uphill on brief occasions. Auckland Walks has been guiding Aucklanders and visitors around the city since 2003. We share gems that even the locals don't know and we pride ourselves on our carbon neutral footprint - the only footprint you leave behind is your own.
BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL, either via Eventfinder or our website (www.aucklandwalks.co.nz) or phone us on 0800 300 100.
Walks leave from the Harbour Information Centre, Pier One in the Ferry Building, 99 Quay Street, Auckland. Group bookings accommodated (ask about starting the walk at your hotel).
