State New Zealand Ocean Swim Series

Over the past years, we’ve battled with storms and earthquakes, but are pleased to announce that after a successful first event in Akaroa last season, we will be back to bring you a second installment.

This season, the State La Grande Swim will be bringing you the same four achievable swim distances at high tide, kicking off with the ‘I’m Going Long’ 2.8km swim around the Bay. This will be followed with the ‘Step It Up’ 1000m swim, ‘Give It A Go’ 300m swim and culminating with the 200m State OceanKids before we reward everyone’s achievements at prize giving.

This year we are also aiming to make the most of the quaint French community of Akaroa, by adding a market atmosphere with food and local craft stalls in the race village.

Also as this year’s State La Grande Swim is on a Saturday, you can make a weekend of it - soaking up the idyllic surroundings of Akaroa. Check out www.akaroa.com for what’s on offer.

The State La Grande Swim event provides an ocean swim event for all ages and abilities.

The 'I'm Going Long' 2.8km Ocean Swim starts on French Bay Beach and finishes on Children's Bay Beach - this swim is for individuals with swimming experience and have trained to complete this event.
The ‘Step It Up’ 1000m Ocean Swim is an achievable distance for individuals with swimming experience and could be training for the ‘I’m Going Long’ swim at one of the other events. The 'Step It Up' 1000m swim starts on French Bay Beach and finishes on Children's Bay Beach.
The ‘Give It A Go’ 300m Ocean Swim is a great introduction to open water swimming taking place on Children's Bay Beach.
The State OceanKids is for children aged between 6-10 years old and consists of a 200m shallow water swim out from Children's Bay Beach, lined with Surf Life Saving NZ guards.
