Check out Blues legend Midge Marsden, with support by The Alibis, as part of Auckland Council's Music in Parks 2013 series!
Midge Marsden has enjoyed a long and varied career. Starting his first band as a 13 year old in New Plymouth in 1960, the sixties was a dream generation to begin a music career. Midge has performed in Australia, Europe and America, along the way both working and making friends with Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and more recently Jack White (the White Stripes) amongst many others.
Midge received an OBE for services to music in 2006 and is recording a new album in the New Year whilst gearing up for the summer music season. Midge says he feels he has been 'adopted by the locals in the district and always loves playing this annual summer celebration'.
This year he's supported by The Alibis, whose sound has been influenced by swing and jump blues combos from the 1950s rhythm and blues era and the neo-swing revival of the late 1990s. Their classy, horn-driven swing music and jump blues appeals to music lovers and dancers alike.
Auckland Council’s Music in Parks 2013 programme features over 40 performances from January 2, 2012 – March 24, 2013.
