Hekama Creative is proud to present the world premiere of Goodbye My Feleni, an uplifting and moving new play by Samoan writer DF Mamea.
Goodbye My Felini pays tribute to the Pacific Island soldiers who served with the Maori Battalion in World War Two. Using Pasifika humour and song to tell the dramatic tale of brotherhood forged under the fires of battle, Goodbye My Feleni explores the sacrifices a Pasifika man must sometimes make in order to fight for God, King and Country – even when its not their own.
Papakura Military Camp, 1942: three enthusiastic Pasifika men are about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime, only days away from joining the 28th (Maori) Battalion in Africa. Their youthful exuberance and naive thirst for battle is threatened by the arrival of a battle-hardened Pasifika officer whose experience and scars are a world away from their expectations.
Join the third echelon reinforcements for D 'Ngati Walkabout' Company, 28th (Maori) Battalion for an evening of song and laughter, boisterousness and camaraderie.
Written by D F Mamea (To'ona'i), produced by Jenni Heka (2012's Wakapurei), and directed by Shadon Meredith and Amelia Reid-Meredith (Hypothesis No. 1), featuring the next generation of Pasifika powerhouse acting with Taofia Pelesasa, Samson Chan-Boon, Leki Jackson Bourke, and Andy Sani.
Some fight for honour, others for love but what does a man do when he can’t go home?
Goodbye My Feleni runs from 16 – 25 April, to celebrate ANZAC day.
