2my Promotions, Flava & Strictly Proudly Presents for his first time in Aotearoa
2MY Promotions finally negotiates for R&B Super Star Bobby V aka Bobby Valentino to grace New Zealand with his presence, to perform an electrifying one off New Zealand show in Auckland on Friday 1st March 2013 as part of his Sweet Valentines Tour. Bobby V originally Bobby Valentino is Robert Willson born February 27th 1980, in Jackson, Mississippi later moving to Atlanta Georgia. Bobby V grew up listening to Michael Jackson, Toni! Toni! Tone, Marvin Gay, Jodeci and the Isley Brothers. These artist’s inspired Bobby V to become a R&B singer.
1996 first saw Bobby V enter into the music sense as a member of the R&B youth quartet “Mista”, releasing their self-titled debut album with the chart topper “Blackberry Molasses”. Due to the poor performance of the album and management issues the group split. Bobby V then attended Clark Atlanta University but never gave up his love for music, entering the American Idol auditions in 2002 and recording demos in his room.
One of these demos reached P Diddy aka Puff Daddy who sent it onto his friend Ludacris and Disturbing Tha Peace president Chaka Zulu, and as Bobby V says, “the rest is history”. Bobby V was featured on the hit single “Pimpin All Over the World” in 2004 off Ludacris’s album “The Red Light District”.
Bobby V released his first album in 2005 distributed through Island Def Jam titled “Bobby Valentino”, with the hit single “Slow Down” becoming the #1 R&B single on the Billboard Hot 100. This cemented Bobby V as a star, and was booked to be part of the Scream Tour lV, which also had Bow Wow, Omarion, Marques Houston, B5 and Pretty Ricky. Bobby V followed up his success with “Tell Me” featuring Lil Wayne.
Following up was Bobby V’s sophomore album “Special Occasion”, with the hit singles “Turn the Page” and “Anonymous” featuring Timbaland. 2008 saw a label change from Disturbing Tha Peace Records to EMI. Bobby V is still close friends with Ludacris and CEO Chaka Zulu. Releasing his album “Rebirth” on his new label in 2009, “Fly on the Wall” was released in 2011 with the hit singles “Phone #” featuring Plies and “Rock Witcha”, a remake of Bobby Brown’s hit song from his 1989 “Don’t Be Cruel” album.
“Dusk Till Dawn” was released in 2012, which saw Bobby V reunite with Lil Wayne for his smash hit “Mirror”. Bobby was asked to feature on a single for Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday: “Roman Reloaded” album with Lil Wayne known as “Sex In the Lounge”. Bobby V is the 2009 UMA’s Best Male Artist and UMA’s best R&B artist. Also in 2005, BMI awarded Bobby V with song Of The Year for “Slow Down”.
Bobby V brings a class of R&B that has not been seen on the shores of New Zealand before. Expect an amazing performance from a well-polished artist for a show that you cannot afford to miss!
