Auckland Lantern Festival

Bring all the family to celebrate the new Year of the Snake at Auckland's 14th annual Lantern Festival. Choose from dozens of delicious Asian food stalls and picnic on the grass amidst hundreds of beautiful lanterns specially imported from China. Non-stop entertainment on our main stage includes the Omnipotent Youth Society rock band from Beijing, a classical music group from Chengdu and acrobats from Shanghai. Not to be missed! Brought to you by Asia New Zealand Foundation in partnership with Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED).

Highlights of this event include: exciting on-stage performances, authentic crafts, delicious food stalls and the gorgeous illumination of Albert Park by hundreds of hand-crafted lanterns.

The 2013 Lantern Festival will welcome the Chinese zodiac year of the snake, which represents great wisdom and intuition. This intelligent, seductive, animal will be woven into the festival, and hopefully lead people toward a path of good fortune for the year ahead.

Each year the festival features a new twist, with exciting activities and decorations at every turn.

If you’re a first timer to the festival, make your journey a smooth one - Why not take a bus, train or ferry to the central city, and meander through the lantern trails to Albert Park.
