Zest is the street music festival to support events organised by community organisations during the week of 27th February.
Access Manawatu’s Sounds of Summer kicks off the week on Monday 27th with lunchtime concerts each day at 12pm, some of our best bands will be playing for one hour in the Square.
The Rotary Youth Music Festival on Saturday 3rd will showcase our young musical talent. 150 musicians from our local intermediate and high schools will be playing in cafes and malls around the Square from 9.30am onwards.
From 6pm to 10pm, Music on George is going to bring back nightlife in George Street and Coleman Mall. Both streets will be closed and left to pedestrians to enjoy shopping, eating, watching fire eaters and listening to acoustic music. Workshops around music will be held in the City Library and the Youth Space is going to host an amazing photo studio for guitars. Several cafés and shops will put on an extra feature to celebrate the evening while we’ll be launching a special edition of Oh Hi, a community dedicated zine.
On Lombard Street, Creative Sounds, a.k.a. The Stomach, is putting on 4 live shows from 8pm to 10pm on Friday the 2nd and 4 live shows on Saturday 3rd from 8pm to 10pm! $10 one per show but if you attend the first on Friday, the second of Saturday is free!
Three workshops will be held in the City Library and in the Youth Space:
-a demonstration of Korg's workstation Kronos, by Music Planet
-a workshop around how to write music with software, by James L.
-a photo studio dedicated to all guitars, by Mark Brimblecombe
-a workshop around how to organise your tour, by Creative Sounds
And Olly Martin's music merch stall!
Come on in, relax to the sound of great acoustic music, eat and enjoy this nightlife festival in Palmerston North's cultural precinct.
