2012 will see the 70th anniversary of “the friendly invasion” of US Marines on the Kapiti Coast and in other parts of NZ. Join the Kapiti US Marines Trust and Greater Wellington to tour camps Russell (Queen Elizabeth Park) Mackay (Whareroa Farm) and Paekakariki. We will visit the Paekakariki Station Museum and be hosted by the Kapiti US Marines Trust for morning tea. Hear stories from people who were there at the time. Walk the newly reinstated Yankee Trail from Paekakariki to the Marines Memorial in Queen Elizabeth Park, looking at sites along the way.
