The World Press Photo Exhibition 12 will be featured for an unprecedented five week season in July/August 2012. For well over 50 years the WPPE has encouraged and acknowledged the very highest standards in professional photojournalism, with WPPE 12 presenting the winning images selected from 101,254 pictures entered by 5,247 photographers representing 124 nationalities.
The overall winning photo is by Spanish photographer, Samuel Aranda, taken in Yemen on assignment for The New York Times. The picture is of a woman holding her wounded son in her arms, inside a mosque used as a field hospital by demonstrators against the rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, during clashes in Sanaa, Yemen on 15 October 2011.
The New Zealand Netherlands Foundation are delighted to be bringing WPPE 12 back to Wellington for a five week season for the first time after a decade of very successful exhibitions.
With excellent support from Rabobank and The Dominion Post making it possible to present this season in Wellington which will be open to the public July 26 - August 29, 2012.
Another special dimension of WPPE 12 will be the Charity Partner relationship with Save the Children New Zealand who are actively involved in many of the countries depicted in the exhibition.
