This year Auckland hosts the Grand Opening Ceremony for the 2012 Asia-Pacific World Harmony Run, one of several continuous relay runs spanning the globe. This is the global 25th anniversary of this Olympic-style torch relay to promote peace, harmony, international friendship and understanding.

The Grand Opening Ceremony begins a two week running journey for the New Zealand relay team across the nation. Along the way they will visit dozens of schools to share the message that humanity is one family and that world peace starts with each individual. The run then carries on through Australia, Indonesia, Japan, China and onwards to Russia.

12pm-12:50pm: Official lighting of the Peace Torch at Aotea Square: Open to the public. VIP guests will include Members of Parliament, international diplomats and prominent members of the community. Musical entertainment will occur after the lighting of the Peace Torch.
