From the group who brought you, Julius Caesar, Twelfth Night and an outdoor promenade of Midsummer Night's Dream, The Shakespeare Group now present their abridged production of William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. Directed by Douglas Roberts with financial support from Creative Communities NZ. Three shows only.
Journey through the snow, be pursued by ferocious wild beasts and get sifted in the sands of time as Shakespeare takes us to a kingdom plunged into chaos by a deluded and jealous king. His loyal wife he accuses of adultery and treason, his innocent baby is abandoned on a stormy foreign shore. Time passes and our spirits are raised by hopeful young lovers in a festival rich with dancing, comedy, music and song. There are kings disguised as peasants, princes as shepherds and Shakespeare's much-loved rogue Autolycus dupes them all. This is The Winter's Tale; both tragedy and comedy, a tale of deception and suspicion, hatred, broken friendships, love, laughter, forgiveness and reconciliation.
